The Central Europe Foundation (Mitteleuropa-Stiftung) is a Swiss charitable foundation, founded in Zürich, Switzerland on 14 August 1997 at the bequest of the Hantos family, originally from Budapest, Hungary. The foundation was set up to promote Economic Cooperation worldwide through the provision of scholarships at selected universities in Central Europe and elsewhere. The foundation also gives prize each year to a person or organization in recognition of outstanding achievement in promoting economic cooperation in Central and Eastern Europe. The foundation is also devoted to researching, preserving and disseminating the works of Dr. Elemer Hantos (1880-1942) and of other distinguished leaders and thinkers who have made a major contribution toward creating zones of economic cooperation in Central Europe and elsewhere.
